Appalachian State University, located in Boone, North Carolina in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is part of the University of North Carolina system. Enrollment for 2008 was 16,610, with 14,561 undergraduate and 2,049 graduate students. Offering more than 140 undergraduate and graduate majors in science, art, education, business, and music, Appalachian State University is situated on 1,300 acres, with a 410-acre main campus and an off-campus center in New York City. Students can choose from 20 varsity sports, 19 club sports, and over 60 intramural options.

Nursing Education at Appalachian State University

Appalachian State University, in partnership with the Office of Extension and Distance Education, offers an off-campus RN to BSN degree through its College of Fine and Applied Arts. Students can pursue the RN to BSN program in locations throughout western North Carolina. A four-year BSN program is currently in the development stages, along with the College of Health Sciences and Allied Professions which will combine the Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science and the Department of Nursing, along with the Foods and Nutrition programs.
