Alcorn State University was the country’s first state-supported institution for the higher education of African Americans and serves the southwestern region of Mississippi. In addition to providing education for approximately 3,100 students, its goal is to provide programs and services for the community, region and state. Located on 1,700 acres in Lorman and Natchez, Mississippi, Alcorn was founded 1871. Seven different schools offer programs leading to associate’s, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees. Outside class, students can choose from more than 40 clubs and organizations, or participate in one of many competitive sports.

Nursing Education at Alcorn State University

The Alcorn State University School of Nursing, located on the Natchez campus, began offering an associate’s degree in nursing in 1977. Since then it has grown, and now offers undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate programs. The nursing department offers a BSN and an RN to BSN program. These programs are designed to provide students with a foundation for continued education in the nursing profession. Within the MSN degree, students can choose from Family Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Educator options. Nursing programs at Alcorn State University offer both full-time and part-time study options.
