BSN-prepared nurses in Ohio outnumber associated-prepared RNs by more than 2,500 according to the National Sample Survey of Registered Nurses and the gap will continue to climb. A survey from the Ohio Center for Nursing projects a shortage of associate-degree and BSN-prepared nurses while LPNs will find a limited number of open positions available. An Ohio Workforce Survey reports Southeastern Ohio and Franklin county have the happiest employees.
The state of Ohio requires 24 continuing educations for licensure renewal, but this is prorated for nurses receiving licensure through endorsement. At least one continuing education must cover laws and regulations surrounding nursing practice in the state. Ohio is a nurse licensure compact state.
Where to Study: Two options
Kent State University. Kent State University's sits in the hub of the Ohio Valley. The university offers an RN-to-BSN program with innovative options: RN-to-BSN with Health Informatics focus, RN-to-BSN with Public Health Certificate and RN-to-BSN with credits toward an MSN in Education. All options can be completed through online coursework.
University of Cincinnati. Students can complete this program on a full-time or part-time schedule. UC is a public university with five-campuses located within the metropolitan Cincinnati area.

Akron General Medical Center. Named by Health Grades as a Top 50 hospital, Akron General Medical Center is scheduled to open a comprehensive health and wellness center in March 2012.
