Missouri RNs have many professional opportunities. Over 70,000 RNs are licensed and earn an annual mean salary of $59,000. Most work in hospitals in the larger metropolitan regions. Although Missouri has the nation's ninth strongest nursing workforce (1038 nurses per 100,000 people) a shortage still exists - primarily in rural areas.
In Missouri, LPN to ADN programs are a popular option, with several located in community colleges across the state. Some LPN to BSN programs are also available should you decide that you want to take full advantage of the opportunities afforded to BSNs. Almost all programs are campus-based and many have a partial online component. Distance-learning opportunities are available, but they still require some on-site training or clinical rotations.
Your employer may be able to help you pay for your education. In addition to federal aid, the Missouri Nursing Student Association has a list of available scholarships. Check out the Missouri State Board of Nursing, Missouri Nurses Association, and the Missouri Hospital Association for more information about RNs.
Schools to Consider
